Astera is operated by Black Sheep Software. This policy explains the information handled when you use the Astera website, API, or mobile application.

Information we process

• Locations, coordinates, and place-search text you submit to obtain weather information.
• Technical request information such as IP address, date and time, requested route, response status, and user agent in hosting and security logs.
• API keys supplied by approved applications.
• If you create an alert: its name, selected location, activity threshold, delivery destination, and delivery history. A destination may include an email address, webhook URL, mobile push token, or browser push subscription (an endpoint URL and encryption keys generated by your browser, not personally identifying on their own).
• Information you provide when reporting a problem or contacting us.

How we use information

We use this information to provide forecasts and alerts, remember your chosen location where requested, protect and diagnose the service, prevent abuse, and improve reliability. We do not sell personal information or use weather searches to build advertising profiles.

Local device storage

The website or mobile app may store preferences, a recent location, an API key, and cached weather on your device. This supports the features you request. You can remove this information by clearing site or application data.

Analytics and cookies

Astera does not currently enable non-essential analytics. If analytics are introduced, this policy will be updated and any consent required by law will be requested before non-essential storage is used.

Providers and sharing

Information is processed by service providers needed to run Astera, including its web and API hosting providers. Location queries or coordinates may be sent to weather, geocoding, timezone, environmental, and marine-data providers to answer your request. Alert destinations may be sent to the relevant email, webhook, or push-notification provider. These organisations process information under their own terms and privacy obligations.

Retention and security

Weather responses are cached briefly. Operational logs are kept only as long as reasonably needed for security and diagnosis, subject to hosting-provider settings. Alert rules remain until deleted or until the underlying service storage is replaced. We use reasonable technical safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection concerning your personal information. You can delete alert rules through the service and clear locally stored data through your browser or device.
